So Far, In The Art Department

Since working in the career mentorship program at The Art Department, my days have been filled with art. This program is very self-driven, and it's exciting to be able to work on projects I've always wanted to do (but never had time for during college). So here's a little of what I've been doing since August.

Every Thursday evening at the Richmond POD, we have figure drawing sessions (because you can never have too many of them!):

The big, big project I'll be working on...all I can reveal is this:

More details coming soon.

Some People (and a sneak peek!)

(That stunner sayin' "woohoooo!" is me, of course.)

These folk below are characters from a personal project...involving animation! The turnout's going to be pretty exciting.

Lighting Practice, ooo pretty!

I hope I'll have lights like this in my room one day...they're my favorite.

I'm a bit rusty on digital coloring, but I'll continue to practice more and more on this!

A Little This and That

In between my TAD projects, I did some of my own work (this is how I take breaks from doing more artwork!)

Oooo, Animation!

A few months ago, I experimented with animated environments, like this (click!):

My goal this summer was to challenge myself by doing more animating. I decided to work on my jogger character from the zombie game assignment!

Click me!

No, me!

Me! I run!

It's looking a bit...elementary, but I'll be practicing a lot more with this.

TAD Workshop Week Three

The last assignment of The Art Department workshop was to create our own assignment, based on what we want to improve on our work. I decided to focus on my sketchbook drawings. Throughout the workshop, I experimented with drawing my observations as full illustrations. I wanted to take one of these illustrations to the next level by adding color.

I took inspiration from the environments of Disney's 101 Dalmations (love!).
I'll be doing more of this with my sketchbook pages in the future.

TAD Workshop Week Two

The second assignment of The Art Department was to create a character for a zombie game for Spidermonk Entertainment. The character I had to create was a survivor, specifically a jogger. It started out as a female, but I decided to play around with different types of runners.

Then it became this guy (everyone turned out liking him the most, haha).

Sketchy favorite!

The more notes I've taken here at the Kansas City TAD studio, the more I like to make them a part of the composition of my drawings...Try it!

Hello all! Sorry for the lack of activity on here. So much going on...tomorrow, I'll be on a plane to Kansas City for The Art Department summer workshop! I've been accepted into their Entertainment Design one-year career mentor program, starting in August. This workshop is going to be a great jump start to my post-college career. Couldn't be more excited! After I complete the workshop and get settled back into Richmond, there will be a big art post on all the work I've done at Kansas City.

Richmond Series, Character Designs and Illustrations, oh my!

More work from my Richmond series! To take it a step further, I choose a figure I've drawn in each environment and I create a character sheet to flesh out the character. Here is Shafer Court, an area outside of the dining hall at VCU:
Carytown, a popular local shopping area with the most awesome theatre,
Hollywood Cemetery, an infamous cemetery...think Tim Burton cemetery with a Civil War flair. You might see a couple people you'd recognize!
Crossroads! The same coffee place from the previous post.
Some practice heads. One might look familiar...
A mock ad I made for Jones of my favorite sodas ever!
Some designs and illustrations for a story I created:
